About Tiree, Scotland

The Isle of Tiree is the most westerly island of the Inner Hebrides. It is also probably Scotland’s main - or at least its best known - watersports destination. This place is perfect for kitesurfing, as it offers numerous water conditions, along with nice clean wind. Pro Kitesurfer and 2008 UK Champ Helen Thompson is often to be found riding here, and, as the beaches face in all directions, it is always possible to find the right spot. Inland, there is a shallow loch that provides ideal conditions for those new to the sport.

Traveling to Tiree, Scotland

You will probably arrive at the airport from Glasgow, unless you have island hopped by ferry. The island is small, but car hire is available, and Tiree also has a Ring ‘n' Ride service provided by the Council. This is available on demand anywhere on the island between 7am and 6pm Monday to Saturday and open to anyone.

Facilities At Tiree, Scotland

There is some fantastic accommodation on Tiree, and the landscape is truly stunning - so whether you plump for a B&B, self-catering, a guesthouse, a hotel, a hostel, or a campsite, you are guaranteed an awe-inspiring view. Although a small island, there are shops, supermarkets, bars, and restaurants. We recommend contacting Wild Diamond, a watersports centre based on the Isle of Tiree, which offers tuition in kitesurfing as well as many other sports. The instructors’ local knowledge of the beaches and conditions will ensure you don’t miss an opportunity to sample Tiree’s wind and waves. For accommodation, have a look at Cnoc A'Mhurain, the perfect place for a group of travelling kitesurfers wanting a self-catering cottage with sea views.
