Salamansa is a village located only 7 km ENE of the capital of Mindelo on the island of São Vicente in Cape Verde, Africa. The area around Salamansa contains barren rocks with a little grass. Monte Verde, the island's tallest mountain, is to the south. The living standards are similar to other rural areas of Cape Verde.  It is less developed compared to the other islands; Sal and Boa Vista, although the town Mindelo is a lively city with varied scenic landscapes.   It is a perfect spot for a kitesurfing holiday and for beginners to learn in the crystal clear waters.   Salamansa, the whole island of São Vicente for that matter, is an adventure spot.  It is a soft, sandy beach with great mountain backdrop scenery and it does not get crowded; you might be the only person kitesurfing here on any given day.   This spot is recommended for beginner to advanced riders; it is a super spot for wave and freestyle riding. The waves are small but get bigger during high tide.   You can rig up your gear on the large sandy beach which has spectacular views.   The Northern Cape Verde Islands are good kitesurfing spots due to their consistent trade winds and warm temperatures.  The sea temperature is an average of 22 - 27 C and the air temperature, 24- 29 C. It is mostly dry with the exception of the rainy season from August to September.   The best months for kitesurfing are from November to June with NE trade winds from 11 – 25 knots.

The closest city is Sao Pedro where the San Pedro Airport is located.  It is a short drive to Mindelo and Salamansa.

Sao Vicente has natural beauty and ample fun things to do.   Mindelo has lively cafés, good restaurants, fine colonial architecture and a natural deep water harbour. It has the most active nightlife of the Cape Verde islands, crammed with artists and musicians to entertain you.   Stay at the Casa Colonial in Mindelo or at Casa Verde, casacolonial.info; the accommodation places all have their own restaurants.  Another place would be the Hotel Oasis Atlantico Porto Grande.   You can also explore the amazing scenery the island has to offer by hiking or renting a jeep.  Climb to the highest point of the island where you can catch some breath-taking views and photograph the panoramic scenery. Alternatively, you can hop on the boat for a short ride to an island that has totally different scenery.   Salamansa and Sas Gatas both offer shallow bays with fresh, clear water swim in.
