The Purdy spit at Henderson Bay is across the Narrows bridge from Tacoma and north about 16km.   Purdy is best on a SW wind which usually comes through after a front.  This spot is recommended for beginner to intermediate kiters.  If you cannot stay upwind, you will just end up at the other end of the bay, which makes it a safe place to learn.   You can rig up your gear on the beach which has ample space and consists of a mixture of sand and rocks. It is best to kite here on a low tide (as a beginner), the road and power lines are close to the launch area on a high tide.    The water is clean, flat and shallow with a small chop, depending on the speed of the wind and the tides.
