About El Medano Bay, Tenerife
The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is a Spanish island, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa. The northeast trade winds make this spot a very windy and attractive location for both kitesurfers and windsurfers alike.
The wind builds throughout the day, remaining strong even after the sun has gone down. El Medano Bay is a great spot, offering a combination of chop and small waves, and with kitesurf tuition available on the beach. Tenerife benefits from having constant cross-onshore winds for much of the year, while water temperature reaches around 18 C in winter and 26 C in summer. You can get away with board shorts, but it's advisable to take a summer wetsuit.
Traveling to El Medano Bay, Tenerife
Air travel to and from the Canary Islands could hardly be easier, with two airports: Los Rodeos airport, situated in the north of the island near La Laguna; and Reina Sofia in the south, near the Costa del Silencio. The roads are also good, and it’s probably a good idea to rent a car, so that you can travel the whole island, taking in the local culture or seeking out new kiting spots. Alternatively, it’s possible to hire mountain bikes, mopeds, scooters, and motorbikes.
Facilities At El Medano Bay, Tenerife
Tenerife is a well-trodden tourist island, so there are plenty of bars, cafes, clubs, and restaurants on offer, as well as an aqua park for a little childish fun. There are also boat trips available – and you can even rent a catamaran for an afternoon, or try your hand at wakeboarding or jet skiing. With fabulous sunshine and fantastic kitesurfing to boot, Tenerife has everything you could ask for in a holiday destination, so if you are travelling with non-kitesurfers, you can be sure everyone will enjoy themselves.
