Popular downwinder spots are Calmers, Eerste Steen, Tweede Steen, Derde Steen and Haakgat. They are all situated in the Western Cape on the road to Melkbos and have an exposed beach break that has consistent surf.  Summer offers the optimum conditions on a SE.  Derde Steen and Haakgat are popular spots to end a downwinder from Sunset Beach or Big Bay.  Tweede Steen has a more inconsistent surf.  The waves can get massive here, and these spots are recommended for advanced riders.

Traveling to Derde Steen, S.Africa

The closest airport is the Cape Town International, which offers both domestic and international flights.  Car hire is easily available and the public transport is reliable.

Facilities At Derde Steen, S.Africa

Eerste Steen has braai and picnic facilities.  Shops and accommodation are available in Big Bay and further south.  Contact the Downwinder Shuttle if you need to be picked up or dropped off for a downwinder.  There is not much parking available at these spots and it can get crowded on good days.
