The Caribbean region consists of the Caribbean Sea, its islands, and the surrounding coasts. Located southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and comprising over 7,000 islands, islets, reefs and cays, it is also known as the West Indies. The geography varies throughout the Caribbean, with islands such as Barbados, Grenada, and the Bahamas having relatively flat terrain, while others, such as Saint Lucia, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago, offer rugged, towering mountain ranges. The climate is tropical, with warm, moist, easterly trade winds making it a fantastic kiting destination. The Caribbean Sea offers a wealth of coral reefs and fantastic diving opportunities, as well as nice reef breaks for those wave-riders amongst you. Hurricanes do sometimes affect the region, usually hitting north of Grenada, west of Barbados.
