Cannon Beach was named after a lone cannon that was found nestled in the sand back in 1846.  It is a popular spot for catamaran sailors, kitesurfers and wind surfers who take advantage of the shallow water and good winds. The water is cold all year round, a wetsuit or drysuit in winter is recommended.   This is a super spot for beginners to advanced riders; the beach is long and wide and the water is shallow, with waves picking up, to approximately 3m, depending on the wind strength and tides.  Be careful of the rocks and other beach users.   The best kiting months are from May to September on a SW or NW direction with an average of 8 – 20 knots.
